CEO fraud
CEO fraud, also known as business email compromise, targets companies: the fraudster impersonates an executive or a business partner and asks an employee for an urgent, confidential and often international transfer. It plays on authority, urgency and secrecy to bypass the usual controls. The amounts involved frequently run into hundreds of thousands of euros. Verification of payee (VoP) and dual approval procedures sharply reduce the risk.
