Claims fraud
Claims fraud means deceiving the insurer at the point of indemnification: inflating the amount of a genuine loss, reporting a loss that never happened, deliberately causing damage, or submitting the same loss to several insurers. Staged accidents and collusive accident reports are common forms, sometimes organised in networks. It is the most visible and most costly category of fraud for insurers.
