Deepfake
A deepfake is synthetic content, video, image or voice, produced by artificial intelligence to reproduce the appearance or the voice of an existing person. In fraud, it mainly serves two purposes: deceiving a remote identity check by presenting a fabricated face to the camera, and lending credibility to a manipulation, for example a fake executive on a video call asking for a transfer. The countermeasure on identity relies on liveness detection and on reading the document's chip rather than its image. Worth noting: in published statistics, deepfakes remain a minority, with most manipulation fraud still going through a simple phone call.
