Electronic signature

An electronic signature is a method that ties a signatory to a digital document, guaranteeing their identity and the fact that the document has not been altered after signing. The European eIDAS regulation defines 3 levels: simple, advanced and qualified, the last carrying the same legal weight as a handwritten signature. The level to use depends on the risk involved and on sector requirements. It is central to remote contracting and relies on prior identity verification.
