IARD (French property and casualty insurance)

IARD is the French acronym for Incendie, Accidents et Risques Divers and designates the property and casualty branch: motor, home, civil liability, commercial damage. It is a category specific to the French classification, so the acronym is kept rather than replaced by a local equivalent. It is the branch most exposed to claims fraud: in 2024, ALFA identified 656 million euros of fraud there, much of it on motor. It is distinct from personal lines insurance, which covers life, health and protection.
