National digital identity

A national digital identity is a system, managed by a state or public framework, that allows citizens to prove their identity online with a high level of assurance. Europe has many widely adopted examples, such as France Identité and FranceConnect in France, itsme in Belgium, BankID in Sweden, MitID in Denmark, SPID in Italy, and DigiD in the Netherlands. These schemes are intended to be recognized under the eIDAS 2.0 framework and to coexist with the future European Digital Identity Wallet.
