Identity theft
Identity theft means impersonating another person by using their data or documents, often stolen or forged. It is used to open an account, take out a loan, claim a refund or redirect a payment in the victim's name. Generative AI has made forged documents and deepfakes far more convincing. Identity verification and NFC chip reading help tie a file to a person who genuinely exists.
