Insurance fraud
Insurance fraud covers every behaviour aimed at improperly obtaining a policy, a cover or a payout: false statements at underwriting, invented or inflated claims, forged documents, identity theft. In France, ALFA identified 902 million euros of fraud in 2024, of which around 840 million were not paid out thanks to controls, a sharply rising figure that is still considered understated. It weighs on insurers' results and, indirectly, on the premiums paid by honest policyholders.
