The Kbis extract is the document issued by the registry of the French commercial court that certifies a company's registration in the trade and companies register. It summarizes its identity (name, SIREN number, legal form, capital), its address, its activity, its directors and, where applicable, any insolvency proceedings under way. Since the creation of the national business register, a large part of this information can be consulted free of charge online. Two precautions in company verification: a Kbis proves legal existence and not real activity, and an extract supplied by a third party may have been falsified or simply be out of date, hence the value of checking the information at source.
