NFC (Near Field Communication)

NFC (Near Field Communication) is the very short range contactless communication technology that makes it possible to read the chip embedded in passports and recent identity cards. Its value in identity verification is considerable: the chip contains the civil status data and the photograph, cryptographically signed by the issuing state. What is read is therefore no longer the image of the document, which can be retouched or entirely fabricated, but data whose authenticity and integrity can be verified. Two practical conditions: the document must be fitted with a chip, which rules out older cards, and reading it requires a compatible phone.
