SEPA direct debit
A SEPA direct debit is a payment instrument through which a creditor, authorised by a mandate signed by the debtor, takes an amount from that person's account. It is widely used for subscriptions and recurring bills. The mandate and the right to dispute a collection frame the scheme, but it remains exposed to fraudulent collections when account details have been hijacked. Checking the mandate and the account details keeps that risk down.
