Risk-based approach

The risk-based approach is the core principle of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing: calibrating controls to the actual risk posed by each customer. It distinguishes 3 levels of due diligence: simplified for low risk, standard for normal risk, and enhanced for high risk, politically exposed persons or high-risk countries. Under AML6, this assessment becomes continuous and every decision must be documented.
